Merlion Park
This park features a fountain that has come to be considered the symbol of Singapore: a lion’s head on a fish’s body is the source of the water.
National Library Singapore and Garden Walks
The National Library is Singapore’s largest library, and it has recently been relocated to a slick, award-winning new building cleverly surrounded by a maze of gardens that function as natural air conditioners for the library.
The Elephant Statue and Old Parliament House
The bronze elephant statue outside the Old Parliament House was a 19th-century gift from a king of Siam. The building itself is now a center for the fine and performing arts. Guided tours are available for a small fee, but admission is free.
Dalhousie Obelisk
This monument was erected to mark the visit of Governor-General of India Marquis Dalhousie in the middle of the 19th century.
People of the River Sculptures
This is a series of life-size bronze sculptures of people arranged on the banks of the Singapore River depicting the various stages of the history of Singapore.
The Battle Box
The British Malaya Command Headquarters was housed in this underground bunker complex during World War II until the Japanese conquered Singapore. It has been reconstructed and is now used as a museum for that era.
The Civilian War Memorial
Also serving as a tomb for unknown war victims, this memorial was built to commemorate those who suffered and died under the Japanese occupation of Singapore in World War II, which took place from February 15, 1942, to September 12, 1945. Memorial services are still held here yearly.
Snow City
Snow City has a giant indoor snow slope and offers skiing, snowboarding, sledding, and other winter activities. Everything, including cold-weather gear, is for rent.
Science Centre Singapore
This is a world-famous hands-on science museum with over 1,000 exhibits.
The Singapore Flyer
Ride a giant Ferris wheel to see all of Singapore at a glance. There is a shopping and entertainment complex complete with rainforest at the bottom of the wheel.
Downtown East
Here is an entire “self-contained entertainment district”, sort of like an upscale, permanent fairgrounds, that strives to provide something for everyone. There are rides, games, retail shops, and a wide choice of catering options – and, of course, souvenirs.
Forest Adventure
For those who feel the desire to let out their inner monkey, this is a huge tree-top playground. Harnesses and safety lines are supplied, naturally.
